SDCCU Hosting Educational Webinar on Avoiding Elder Financial Abuse Scams

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (November 15, 2021) -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of California’s largest credit unions, will host “District Attorney Tips on How to Avoid Becoming the Next Victim of Elder Financial Abuse Scams,” a complimentary educational webinar presented by San Diego County Deputy District Attorney Scott Pirrello on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 9 a.m. The free webinar is open to the public, but virtual seating is limited and reservations are required.

Elder financial abuse is on the rise. With the rapid increase in online usage due to the pandemic, fraudsters are employing a number of tactics to take advantage of victims, particularly older adults and those that are more vulnerable. During the webinar, Pirrello will cover common scams, what to watch for and strategies to protect yourself or your loved ones from becoming a victim. To register, visit sdccu.com/fww.

Pirrello is the Head of Elder Abuse Prosecutions for the San Diego District Attorney’s Office and has been a prosecutor for 15 years. Since 2009, Pirrello has been assigned to the Family Protection Division prosecuting a variety of family violence cases including elder abuse, domestic violence and child abuse cases. Pirrello now focuses exclusively on prosecuting all varieties of elder abuse including physical, financial, sexual and neglect cases and the vulnerable victims that come with them. Pirrello has more than 40 jury trials to his credit including cases involving murder, sexual assault, domestic violence, elder abuse and others. Pirrello is an expert in elder abuse prevention enforcement, prosecution and on the multi-disciplinary team approach to elder abuse prevention.
