Supporting Public Art

This credit union is making a $40K contribution to support a public art project featuring grain silos in Minot and showing support for the ag industry.

Town & Country Credit Union has committed to donating $40,000 to the Union Silos public art project in Minot, ND. The Union Silos project will turn the downtown Farmer’s Union Cooperative grain silos into North Dakota’s largest mural, an artistic backdrop for downtown Minot.

"Agriculture is at the heart of our credit union," said Brad Houle, President/CEO of Town & Country Credit Union. "We were founded in 1939 to provide farmers access to agriculture loans in the very basement of this building. As one of the largest ag lending credit unions in the country, we are thrilled about the value this public art display will provide to our community and that grain silos will be used as the canvas for this art installation."

The Union Silos project is being coordinated through the Minot Area Council of the Arts and led by volunteers. The artist commissioned for this project is Guido VanHelten.

Project co-organizer, Tim Baumann, said, "The artist has committed to only one project in the entire state. This project will be part of the artist's Monoject, which is designed to create one unique artistic tourist destination in each of the fifty states. So far, Texas, Kansas, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Arkansas all have work done by the artist. Superior, WI, is slated after Minot is completed."

More information about the artist and how community members and businesses can support this project can be found at ndunionsilos.com. A series of community events with the artist will take place in Spring 2023.
