City of Boston CU Sponsors Golf Course Management Program for Teens

Boston, MA - For the second year, City of Boston Credit Union was the primary sponsor of Mayor Marty Walsh's Summer Golf Course Management Program. The program offers teens between the ages of 15-18 the opportunity to develop an understanding of golf course management and course maintenance. Their duties, performed at both city-owned golf courses, George Wright and Franklin Park, include turf management, course maintenance projects, pro shop operations, and tournament support.

Teens are chosen for the program through a detailed process involving a personal interview and essay. After at least two years of service, teens are then eligible to apply for the Ouimet Scholarship, which has awarded nearly $32 million in need-based college tuition assistance since 1949.

After being greeted with remarks by City of Boston Credit Union President/CEO Dan Waltz, the teens had a financial literacy session presented by the credit union's business development officer Kate Sullivan, who shared eight financial tips to guide the group to think about their spending habits. The favorite tip was "FOMO" (fear of missing out), which stressed that it's all right to miss out on something everyone else may be doing if you don't have the money to pay for it.
