Service CU is Recognized for Exceptional Financial Service and Support of US Army

Sembach, Germany (August 8, 2017) – Service Credit Union was selected for the Army’s 2016 Distinguished Credit Union of the Year by the United States Department of the Army. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional financial service and support of U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria, Germany.

USAG Bavaria in Germany includes Service Credit Union branches at Tower Barracks in Grafenwöhr, Rose Barracks in Vilseck, the Hohenfels Training Area and Artillery Kaserne in Garmisch. This is the fifth time that Service Credit Union has received this honor.

In the nomination letter from the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwöhr Commander, Col. Lance Varney stated, “Service Credit Union is an essential member of the USAG Bavaria, the largest Garrison in Europe. Their unrivaled ability to support our service members worldwide through multiple remote access channels enhances individual and unit readiness, as well as ensures the financial soundness of Soldier’s families here in Germany.  Ultimately, their ‘Service’ helps our troops focus on the important missions at hand.”

Service Credit Union strived to be a strong corporate citizen within their military communities. In 2016, Service Credit Union contributed to USAG Bavaria military community for events and programs including USO Thanks for Thanksgiving, holiday dinner and gift cards for Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition, the credit union donated to the summer reading program, Fourth of July event, Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, Month of the Military Child events and other activities.

“This is a wonderful recognition of Service Credit Union’s work. We help military families who face unique financial challenges. It’s an honor for Service Credit Union to get acknowledged for its efforts,” said David Van Rossum, President/CEO of Service Credit Union. “I am incredibly proud of this group of employees who serve our military members. This award is a reflection of their hard work.”

The 2016 Army Credit Union of the Year Award was presented to Service Credit Union at the Defense Credit Union Council annual conference on August 8, 2017 in San Diego, California.
