Affinity FCU is Committed to Improving Employee Wellness

Affinity Federal Credit Union announced it has been named among the recipients of the third annual Wellness Opportunities at Work (WOW) award by UMR, a UnitedHealthcare company and the nation’s largest third-party benefits administrator. The WOW award was created to honor those organizations that demonstrate a commitment to improving their employees’ quality of life through a comprehensive, worksite health promotion program.

U.S. employers face significant pressures in helping to secure the health and well-being of their most valuable resource – their employees. With the increasing rates of diabetes, obesity and risk factors related to heart disease, many employers are taking a proactive approach to addressing these challenges.

Affinity was honored for its commitment to improving employee health and promoting change through healthy lifestyle behaviors. “We are honored to receive yet another award for our wellness efforts as it solidifies our deep commitment to improving not only our members’ lives, but the lives of our hardworking employees,” said John T. Fenton, president and CEO of Affinity. Affinity has a dedicated wellness team that meets regularly to plan program initiatives. These include:

  • Hosting annual Wellness Week events for employees, including health fair vendors, workshops and lunch and learn sessions
  • Holding a charitable breast cancer awareness walk supporting the St. Peter’s University Hospital Breast Care Center
  • Promoting on-site flu shots and health screenings for vision, hearing, skin cancer, cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure
  • Sponsoring a Team Affinity running/walking team in local 5K runs
  • Providing on-site exercise facilities and fitness opportunities
  • Offering healthy eating programs and healthy food options for meetings, company events and in break room areas
  • Offering an employee assistance program (EAP) and educational programs on life issues, including alcohol and drug abuse

They believe it is important to recognize the efforts being made by their customers to support this goal by maintaining a work environment that promotes healthier behaviors.

The WOW award winners were chosen by a team of worksite wellness consultants based on their efforts to promote physical activity, nutrition and mental health/stress awareness, reduce workplace injuries and tobacco use, and support individuals facing alcohol or drug addiction.
