Black Hills FCU Supports Special Olympics South Dakota

Rapid City, S.D. – Supporting athletic endeavors in their community, Black Hills Federal Credit Union employees helped serve lunch to more than 200 athletes competing in the Special Olympics South Dakota – Black Hills Area Softball Tournament this August.

The annual tournament provides children and adults with intellectual disabilities in the Black Hills area with the opportunity to learn how to play softball, develop skills and compete alongside friends, family and the community. Teams that participated in the Black Hills area tournament will go on to compete in the Fall Classic on Friday, September 15 in Mitchell.

“Our employees have a great time interacting with and serving lunch to all the athletes, parents and supporters at this fun community event every year,” said Jackson Bolstad, chair of BHFCU’s Community Action Team Project for Special Olympics South Dakota. “It’s inspiring to witness the courage, joy, and drive these athletes display when they’re out on the field, and we’re proud to support the work Special Olympics South Dakota is doing to improve lives in our community.”

BHFCU employees also donated $200 to the Sioux Falls Little League All-Star Team in support of the team advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Additionally, they teamed up with the Oahe Famly YMCA to collect and donated hundreds of school supplies for the Pierre Area Referral Services’ BackPack Program.

This September, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the United Way of the Black Hills, American Heart Association, Cornerstone Rescue Mission, and Alzheimer’s Association - South Dakota Chapter.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations throughout the year.
