Truliant FCU Recognized for Financial Literacy and Community Service Efforts

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Oct. 10, 2017) -- Truliant Federal Credit Union was recently honored by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation (CCUF) for two 2017 state level awards.

Truliant received 1st Place state-level recognition for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award for North Carolina and South Carolina. The award was given in recognition of Truliant’s financial education grants program launched in 2016. Additionally, Truliant earned 3rd Place for the Dora Maxwell Social Community Service Award.

The Truliant Financial Education Fund was created by Truliant in 2016 in honor of reaching the 200,000 member milestone. The fund strengthens financial literacy for students in grades 6-12 by supplying up to $5,000 in Financial Education grants to public school teachers to incorporate financial education into their classroom curriculum.

As a 1st Place winner, Truliant will move on to the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) National Awards Program competition. CUNA created the Desjardins program to recognize leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of financial literacy for all ages.

The recognition program considers all activities supporting personal finance education, including, but not limited to, teaching using proprietary materials and curricula, as well as financial literacy leadership efforts.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for our work with financial literacy and community service,” said Renee Shipko, Community Engagement Liaison for Truliant. “These grants are having an impact by giving teachers better tools to engage students who are learning money skills that will benefit them far into the future.”

The CCUF presented Truliant with 3rd Place for the Dora Maxwell Social Community Service Award. This award is given for any activity that helps others or strengthens the structure of a community.

Truliant demonstrates social responsibility and care for citizens by actively giving back to strengthen communities. CCUF 2017 Award winners will be recognized at an annual awards gala on Feb. 1, 2018 in Charlotte, N.C.
