Black Hills FCU Employees Give Back to Their Community

Rapid City, S.D. – Keeping with their passion for service, BHFCU’s employees were busy with numerous projects aimed at improving lives in their communities this February. Their volunteer efforts and donations helped support a variety of local nonprofits including the Hope Center, Feeding South Dakota, and more.

As part of their Baskets of Hope donation drive, employees collected and donated hundreds of items to the HOPE Center in Rapid City. The nonprofit organization provides basic day services to those living in poverty and without a home. Donations included everything from hygiene items, blankets and laundry soap to bottled water, offices supplies and more.

“Supporting the HOPE Center gives our employees the opportunity to experience BHFCU’s mission to improve lives played out at the most basic level for many people in our community,” said Stacey Moulton, co-chair of BHFCU’s Community Action Team project to benefit the Hope Center. “As the Hope Center's inventory for many of the items donated was completely depleted, the contributions from our employees saved the organization the time and expense of having to go out and purchase the needed items.”

Employees also helped package food for Feeding South Dakota’s food pantry and donated $900 to the organization. Additionally, they created and delivered 1,627 handmade Valentine’s Day cards to nursing and veterans homes across South Dakota and sent dozens of care packages to South Dakota troops stationed overseas.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations throughout the year. This March, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the Allied Arts Fund, Club for Boys, Readiatrics and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Black Hills. You can get involved with and stay up-to-date on all of BHFCU’s current CAT projects by following BHFCU on Facebook.
