Hanscom FCU Employee Recognized for Volunteer Service

Hanscom AFB, MA (April 24, 2018) – Steve Silva, Hanscom Federal Credit Union’s VP Marketing, and his family were recognized by the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the City of Lowell for over 15 years of volunteer service to the Highland Sports Association and Hadley Field. A formal award presentation took place at Bailey School in Lowell on Saturday, April 21, during opening ceremonies for the Highland Sports Association Little League season.

“Everyone – every family – involved in this baseball program knows that the Silva family is the go-to family if they have a question or need help. Their tireless dedication through the years has helped the association grow to be one of the best in the city,” said Ryan Rourke, President of the Highland Sports Association.

The ceremony followed the annual Little League parade. The citation was presented by Massachusetts State Representative Rady Mom, 18th Middlesex District, before a crowd of hundreds lined up around the school baseball field. “You are truly Lowell’s unsung heroes,” he said.

Silva accepted the award alongside his wife, Moira, and their three children, Harrison, Luke, and Declan. Since 2003, Steve has worked continuously to maintain city fields, coach teams, mentor players and participate on the board of the Highland Sports Association. He currently serves as the Highland Senior League VP. Behind the scenes, Moira has volunteered her time to organize volunteer efforts and assist with publicity.

“I remember that first day, asking Steve to sign up our then-preschooler for a baseball team,” Moira said with a laugh. “When he came home, he smiled and said he signed up to coach, too. That was the start of it all. At one point, he was coaching three teams in a season – one for each of the boys!”

“This is not surprising at all. It is a fitting tribute to a good man,” said Hanscom FCU Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. “Steve has been a loyal, hardworking member of our team, and we are so happy and proud to learn that other teams have also been enriched by his dedication and kindness.”

Hanscom Federal Credit Union, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base, serves over 81,000 members across the country and overseas through 20 branches, over 100,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch. The credit union holds over $1.2 billion in assets.
