Team Hanscom FCU Raises Nearly $40,000 for Boston Children's Children

Hanscom AFB, MA (April 26, 2018) – Hanscom Federal Credit Union raised $39,199.79 for Boston Children’s Hospital at the 2018 Boston Marathon. This is the 19th year the credit union has participated in the iconic Patriots’ Day race.

“I’m continually amazed and heartened by the generosity of our supporters, including our members,” said Paul Marotta, Hanscom FCU’s Chairman of the Board. “I offer my sincerest thanks to everyone who donated to this worthy cause. Their donations make such a difference to the children and their families who benefit from the work Boston Children’s Hospital does.”

One hundred percent of the money raised by Hanscom FCU will be used to fund several pediatric brain research projects at Boston Children’s Hospital, including the search for treatments, therapies, and cures for Moyamoya Disease, Sturge-Weber Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and pediatric brain tumors.

This year’s team was comprised of three runners who trained for months leading up to the April 16 race. Master marathoner Ray Phillips, a member of Hanscom FCU’s Board of Directors, has run the Boston Marathon every year since 2000. This was a landmark year for him: it was his first time running in the 70+ age division. He completed the race in 5:37:50.

Longtime Team Hanscom FCU teammate Andy Martin, Jr., competed in the wheelchair division and, despite suboptimal weather conditions, finished in 6:09:20.

Elizabeth Kistoglou, assistant branch manager of the Billerica branch, ran her first ever marathon. She finished the race in 6:45:30 with Hanscom FCU member advisor Lori Skelton at her side.

Donations for this year’s race are still being accepted at www.hfcu.org/marathon.

Hanscom Federal Credit Union, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base, serves over 81,000 members across the country and overseas through 20 branches, over 100,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch. The credit union holds over $1.2 billion in assets.
