(MCALLEN, TX – JUNE 19, 2018) –– Security Service Charitable Foundation is donating $10,000 to help Angels of Love renovate an emergency shelter for abused women and children. This shelter, located in Weslaco, will accommodate up to 30 victims at a time.

“We’re honored to provide this $10,000 donation to Angels of Love as they help children and families recover their sense of safety and self-worth after domestic violence,” said Julie Balboa, vice president of member service–South Texas Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “One of the most immediate needs in escaping domestic violence is a safe place. Our donation will help to provide that shelter where the healing process can begin.”

Angels of Love was established in 2010 to support victims of domestic abuse in the Rio Grande Valley. Last year alone, they provided help to 200 victims whose lives were untethered by violence. A full array of services are provided such as advocacy, crisis intervention and educational programs to include parenting classes, anger management classes, and drugs and alcohol counseling.

“At Angels of Love, we witness the strength of healing families on a daily basis,” said Della Fay Perez, CEO for Angels of Love. “But in order for this healing to begin, we have to meet foundational needs like providing safe shelter and services that restore health and dignity. This donation from Security Service Charitable Foundation is allowing us to rebuild even more lives throughout the Rio Grande Valley as people recover from the pains of domestic violence.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas that better the community and help to improve the quality of life.
