(ARANSAS PASS, TX – AUGUST 2, 2018)–– The Security Service Charitable Foundation continues to provide assistance to the Texas Coastal Bend by donating $2,500 to the SPCA of San Patricio County.  The funds will be utilized for the medical costs of 25-35 animals. Families and animals from this region are still recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey, as such, their needs are still heightened.

“The reason we are able to make sure no animal is turned away is because of donations like this one from Security Service,” said Patty Heard, director for SPCA of San Patricio County. “This is especially important as we are the only non-kill shelter in San Patricio County. These funds are allowing us to provide medical care for 25-35 animals. This includes spaying, neutering, providing routine medications and flea and tick treatments.”

The SPCA of San Patricio County operates the Sandra Sue Benson Animal Adoption Center, the area’s only non-kill shelter. Here, up to 50 cats and 20 dogs receive medical care and live in comfortable, temporary settings while awaiting adoption. In less than a year, the SPCA of San Patricio County has already found homes and provided medical care for over 150 animals. Their services also include educating the public on spaying and neutering animals and low-cost vaccination clinics.

“After a natural disaster like Hurricane Harvey, rebuilding the community takes time and it includes caring for displaced animals,” said Julie Balboa, vice president of member service—South Texas Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “Security Service is proud to provide this donation to assist the SPCA of San Patricio County as they continue to provide homes and medical care for animals in need.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas that better the community and help to improve the quality of life.
