Heritage Family CU Partners With Children's Museum to Promote Financial Literacy

Heritage Family Credit Union worked with Wonderfeet Kid’s Museum in Rutland, Vermont to open a credit union exhibit at the museum. In addition to the credit union façade, the exhibit features an interactive ATM, money match game, coin sorting game, and teller desk. The exhibit was designed by Yoshi Akiyama, a former head Imagineer for Disney, and built by local craftsman Jim Becker.

The display is the result of a four-year partnership between the museum and the credit union with funding provided by the credit union’s annual Shiver Me Shamrocks Fun Run/Walk and Leprechaun Leap.

“We are so happy to have brought this exhibit to fruition for the benefit of Wonderfeet Kids Museum.  This new exhibit will allow children to experience a credit union and hopefully spark conversations around financial literacy.  It has always been our dream to teach the next generation about the term “credit union”, have them associate it with financial services and learn of the cooperative nature of our people helping people philosophy,” said Matt Levandowski, President/CEO of Heritage Family Credit Union.

Heritage Family is current working with Wonderfeet to develop take-away financial education materials for families, as well as interactive programs for visitors, and organizations which would incorporate all of the museum’s exhibits into a personal finance component, similar to the Game of Life.

“We look forward to continuing the partnership and expanding our financial literacy programs with Wonderfeet,” said Mark Grossarth, AVP- Community Development. “The museum is a great asset to the community and a great way to engage families and start the conversation about money.”
