East River FCU Staff Celebrates Season of Giving

Madison, SD – The holiday months may be designated the “season of giving” but this sentiment is at the heart of East River Federal Credit Union staff all year long. Every month, the staff contribute to an “Image Day fund” and in turn can wear jeans on Friday’s. At the end of the year, all of the staff come together and determine the recipient of those funds. This year, East River FCU staff chose the local Meals-on-Wheels program and the Veterans Honor Park project, donating $350 to each organization.

Staff have been volunteering with the Meals-on-Wheels program throughout the year and have seen first-hand just how essential this service is within the community. “The recipients are so grateful to all those who volunteer to deliver their lunch every day,” states Penni Groce, East River FCU Marketing Specialist. “Some of the recipients are unable to leave their house regularly and really look forward to the daily visits. East River FCU staff have enjoyed this opportunity to fulfill multiple needs through the Meals-on-Wheels program.”

While in its early fundraising stage of the project, East River FCU staff are excited about the plans for a Veterans Honor Park to be located on the southeast part of town. The project is being organized by a local committee comprised of both VFW and American Legion members.

Groce states, “When staff members were made aware of the Veterans Honor Park project, we felt making this donation would be just a small way to show our appreciation to local Veterans – past, present and future.”

The Meals-on-Wheels program is organized by the Interlakes Community Action 60’s Plus Dining department. Call 605-256-6518 to volunteer or make a donation. For more information about the Veterans Honor Park, or to make a donation, contact Danny Frisby-Griffin at 402-332-7423.
