Tropical Financial CU Honors Volunteer for Decades of Service

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Tropical Financial Credit Union recently honored retired Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Joe Oglesby for his dedication and service to credit unions over the past three decades.

Oglesby, who spent most of his career at the Miami Herald, recently came off the board of Tropical Financial.  Previously, he served on the Financial Federal Credit Union board which merged with Tropical Financial in 2017, and before that he was a board member for the Media First Credit Union which originally served Herald employees.

On behalf of the TFCU Board, President and CEO, Rich Helber, presented Oglesby with a commemorative vase with in inscription that reads: “In Recognition and Appreciation for Outstanding and Progressive Leadership to the Credit Union System… from 1990 to 2018.”

“Over the past 30 years, very few have been as loyal and passionate about the credit union mission as Joe,” said Helber. “We are pleased to recognize him for his years of service and dedication.”

Oglesby retired from the Miami Herald as opinion page editor in 2009 after a nearly four-decade career in journalism.   He started at the Herald fresh out of college, but left for other opportunities before returning to Miami for good in 1997.  In 1984, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his exceptional work as a member of the Herald’s editorial board.
