Black Hills FCU Employees Deliver 1,750 Valentines to Veterans and Elderly in Their Community

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Working to improve lives, employees and members at Black Hills Federal Credit Union helped supported a variety of charitable causes and nonprofit organizations in their community this February.

As part of their annual Valentine’s for Veterans projects, employees handcrafted more than 1,750 Valentine’s Day Cards for veterans and elderly individuals in their communities. On Valentine’s Day, employees delivered the cards to a number of veterans homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes and local VFW posts across South Dakota.

“This project is a fun way for our employees and their families to share the spirit of Valentine’s Day with those who may need it most,” said Dawn Erk, chair of BHFCU’s Valentine’s for Veterans Community Action Team Project. “This year, we were proud to distribute a record number of Valentine’s to individuals in Hot Springs, Sturgis, Rapid City, Pierre, Sioux Falls, and more.”

Employees also raised $200 for the Hungry Hearts program in Sioux Falls, which provides financial relief for families who do not qualify for free or reduced lunch due to income constraints. They also raised $1,000 for Special Olympics South Dakota through a donation-based eat-in and jeans day fundraiser. In addition, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the Hope Center and Feeding South Dakota.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations through the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, every year.

Established in Rapid City in 1941, Black Hills Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit, financial cooperative serving more than 70,000 members. The community-chartered credit union has locations in Rapid City, Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Sioux Falls, Spearfish, Sturgis, and Wall, South Dakota.
