Great Lakes CU Celebrates Youth Savings Month to Encourage Good Financial Health Habits

Bannockburn (IL) – Great Lakes Credit Union is celebrating National Credit Union Youth Savings Month (YSM) in April 2019, an annual program designed to educate and encourage children and teenagers about the importance of good financial habits starting with opening up a youth savings account.

The theme for this year’s Youth Month is “The Future is Yours… Picture it! Save for it! Share it!”. Together, we are encouraging youngsters to express themselves through photography, sharing their visions for their own financial futures to fulfill their dreams, no matter big or small.  All new youth accounts openers and deposit makers in April will receive saving related materials as well as some fun giveaways and be entered to win a family day out at a local Dave & Buster’s (value of $250).  In addition, there will be a social media contest for participants to share photos of what they are saving for – check GLCU’s page on Facebook for more information.

Throughout the month of April, GLCU will also be hosting several budget simulation classes at local area schools that teach teens approaching adulthood the importance of budgeting.

Our primary goal for April’s Youth Savings Month and every day at Great Lakes Credit Union is to provide relevant and ongoing financial education that aids youth in understanding the need to develop a savings plan for their future by taking the first step, which is to open up a savings account. Our team of highly trained and certified financial counselors are here to assist our youth through life’s journey. If we can impact our youth by changing their lives for the better our mission is fulfilled.  Please join us in celebrating Youth Savings Month by taking time to educate your children, grandchildren or those you are entrusted to care for.  After all their future is our future and we owe it to our future generations to assist them in developing these core skills needed” said Steve Bugg, President/CEO of Great Lakes Credit Union.

Youth Savings Month activities begin April 1, 2019 and run through April 30, 2019 in all of our retail locations and on social media.
