SPIRE Credit Union Volunteers Cleaning Up Neighborhood for Third Year!

Falcon Heights, MN - SPIRE Credit Union’s volunteer clean-up crew returns to St. Paul’s Lowertown neighborhood for a third year starting this May.

The Lowertown Clean Up Crew is returning for a third year to help keep the St. Paul neighborhood a beautiful urban destination.  Once a month from May to October, volunteers pick up trash for two hours in Mears Park and throughout Lowertown.  The clean-up crew has become a way for residents, businesses, churches, and community organizations to come together in a unique way to better their neighborhood. Last year alone, volunteers logged 135 hours and 580 pounds of trash collected.

Several organizations are joining SPIRE this year as partners.  Black Dog Café (located at 4 St E & E Prince St) will once again provide refreshments for volunteers after each event.  The Capital Region Watershed District and City of St. Paul will help clean out tree grates throughout the neighborhood on June 6.  On July 14, the St. Paul Saints will be joining the crew and providing volunteers with tickets to the game at CHS Field afterwards.

SPIRE Director of Business Development Rachael Reiling coordinates the Lowertown Clean Up Crew. “Lowertown residents and businesses are passionate about their neighborhood,” says Rachael, “SPIRE is proud to have a location in Lowertown and the clean-up crew has been a great way for us to give back and to get to know our neighbors.”

The Lowertown Clean Up Crew will meet at the Mears Park band shell on Sunday May 5, June 2, July 14, August 4, September 8, and October 6.  For details and to register, please visit www.myspire.com/cleanupcrew.
