Freedom Service Dogs Receives $10,000 Donation from Security Service FCU Charitable Foundation

ENGLEWOOD, CO – The Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation is helping provide an upgrade to the training area for Freedom Service Dogs (FSD). Through a $10,000 donation, funds will be used to purchase outdoor sunshades for the dog recreation area, protecting dogs and volunteers from sun, rain, ice, and snow.

FSD specializes in unleashing the potential of dogs by transforming them into custom-trained, life-changing assistance dogs for people in need. Since its founding, they have successfully trained over 400 service dogs at no-cost to clients.

“This donation is allowing us to utilize the recreation area for a greater amount of time which is beneficial for training, play, and morale,” said Michele Ostrander, president and CEO for Freedom Service Dogs. “This enhances our productivity and the overall training experience for our dogs and volunteers.”

Among FSD’s dog recipients are members of the military who are now living with disabilities as well as other individuals with a diverse array of special needs. “We are honored to help support an organization such as Freedom Service Dogs as they work to train service dogs for members of the military and other individuals at no cost,” said Derrick Aguilar, senior vice president of member service – Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We will be adding to this donation this summer through the work of our Volunteer Corps as they assist with the training, care, and fostering of dogs used in the program.”

As a result of FSD's work, hundreds of people with disabilities have increased independence and an improved quality of life. In addition, through shelter and rescue partnerships, FSD's work has assisted in improving canine welfare and mitigating shelter overcrowding. The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
