NWFCU Foundation Donates $20K to Local College’s Student Support Programs

Herndon, Va. The Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU) Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwest Federal Credit Union, began partnering with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) in 2018 by donating  $10,000 as a Higher Education Award grant to NOVA-Loudoun’s Lifeline program, which is an emergency relief fund for students at the Loudoun Campus. The NWFCU Foundation established the Higher Education Award in partnership with NOVA to provide assistance to college students on the brink of completing their associate’s degree who, for some unforeseen circumstance, would not otherwise have the funds to complete their education. In these cases, either the Provost or a dedicated committee from the student’s local NOVA campus is able to step in and provide funding to help them finish their studies.

In 2019, the NWFCU Foundation doubled its investment in this NOVA program, presenting a check for $20,000 to Dr. Julie Leidig, Provost of NOVA-Loudoun. $10,000 of this gift is for use by the NOVA-Loudoun campus. The second $10,000 was split in two, with $5,000 presented to Dr. Annette Haggray, Provost of NOVA-Alexandria, and $5,000 presented to Dr. Molly Lynch, Provost of NOVA-Manassas.

“The NWFCU Foundation’s financial support of this program helps the students. As well, the skills each graduating student brings to his or her new job helps that person’s family and the community at large,” said the Foundation’s Executive Director, Kaycee Childress.
