Hanscom FCU’s Charitable Foundation Holds 2019 Annual Meeting and Reviews Charitable Impact

Hanscom AFB, MA (November 14, 2019) – The Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation provided an accounting of major gifts granted in 2019 at its seventh annual meeting. The meeting was held on October 28 at the Hanscom FCU main office on Hanscom Air Force Base.

“The Foundation’s focus is on providing donations and assistance where we can do great things for the community,” said Paul Marotta, Chairman of the Foundation. “Supporting members of the Foundation have a mutual interest in social welfare and betterment of quality of life that captures the true spirit of the credit union motto of ‘people helping people.’”

Mr. Marotta noted that the non-profit 501(c)(3) organization distributes all proceeds to charity and provided details of the Foundation’s extensive philanthropic support in 2019 that included:

  • The announcement of a $750,000 five-year non-binding commitment to support the Home Base Program. The donation will help to provide clinical care and conduct research that supports veterans and their families experiencing post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries. As part of this commitment, the Foundation raised $150,000 at its annual Alan M. Hart Memorial Charity Golf Classic.

  • Continued support of Boston Children’s Hospital though the sponsorship of charity runners in the Boston Marathon. Over $63,000 was raised to fund several pediatric brain research projects at the hospital.

  • Nearly $20,000 in donations to the Massachusetts Coalition of the Homeless.

  • Volunteer work to build beds for the Bed for Every Child initiative, providing beds for children in the community who may not otherwise have a bed to call their own.

  • A donation of over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life event.

  • A donation of $10,000 to the Lowell High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps to allow their drill teams to attend and compete in the national drill competition championships in Florida.

  • Partnership with Purple Heart Homes to renovate the home of an aging local veteran by both making a $10,000 donation and providing volunteers for a renovation project.

  • Financial support for the National Credit Union Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, and Crossroads for Kids.

Mr. Marotta concluded the 2019 meeting by addressing the members in the room directly and thanking them for their continued support: “You play an important role by lending talent and support that helps the foundation create lasting impact in our community. Thank you for your commitment to our foundation’s mission.”
