First Community CU Donates $250,000 to Anne Carlsen Center

Jamestown, ND - First Community Credit Union (FCCU) is proud to announce their recent donation of $250,000 to the Anne Carlsen Center. This donation, along with funds from other community donors, will be used to help build the new $41 million Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown, ND.

The new campus will be located east of the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, with more space for adequate technology, classrooms and overall room to better accommodate and serve individuals. The new campus could open as early as in the fall of 2021.

After a tour of the current Anne Carlsen Center, Steve Schmitz, President/CEO of FCCU, was sold on providing support for a new building. “What I expected to see when walking through the Anne Carlsen Center, and what I actually saw, were two different things,” said Schmitz. “I saw a home, a school and even a community of people helping people.”

The Anne Carlsen Center is a non-profit organization, providing individuals with development disabilities or delays with services and support, for more than 75 years. “I was very surprised to see the outreach of the Anne Carlsen Center, that goes way beyond Jamestown, helping thousands of people throughout the state of North Dakota,” said Schmitz. The center has locations in Jamestown, Bismarck, Bottineau, Devils Lake, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot and Moorhead and covers nearly every FCCU Market Region.

“Participating in this campaign for the Anne Carlsen Center was one of the easiest, big decisions we have ever had to make,” said Schmitz, after unanimous support from the FCCU Board of Directors, and senior staff members. He continues, “We are truly excited to be part of this project.”

During its 80-year history, First Community Credit Union has grown to be North Dakota’s largest Credit Union. As a credit union, FCCU is owned by its members. This is different than other financial institutions which are owned by a select group of stockholders. The Credit Union's profits are returned to the members in the form of better services, accounts, and favorable rates on savings and loans.
