SD Central Chapter Makes Donation to Local Backpack Program

Huron, SD - July 30, 2020 - The South Dakota Central Chapter of Credit Unions recently gave a monetary donation to the local Backpack Program. Funds were raised at monthly chapter meetings where they held 50/50 drawings and a meeting-to-meeting poker run. Last January, volunteers from the chapter also gathered to pack bags for the Backpack Program.

The Backpack Program is part of the United Way Heartland Region based out of Beadle County, South Dakota. Their main purpose is to supply children in need with food. The bags of food are delivered to seven different schools and approximately 530 students on a weekly basis during the school year!

The Central Chapter is made up of seven credit unions: Dakotaland Federal Credit Union; M-O Federal Credit Union; Huron Area Education Federal Credit Union; HB Telco Federal Credit Union; Dakota Rail Line Federal Credit Union (all of Huron); and Oahe Federal Credit Union (of Pierre) along with the Pierre branch of Black Hills Federal Credit Union, which is an associate member.

Photos: Due to COVID safety precautions the only two present for the donation were United Way’s Executive Director, Jen Bragg (left) and Tiffanie Kouf (right), President of the SD Central Chapter of Credit Unions and Marketing Coordinator for M-O FCU. Additional photos are from January when the chapter volunteered packing bags.
