Christian Community CU Offers Reward Card that Helps Pay for College

San Dimas, CA - September 11, 2020 - Christian Community Credit Union has partnered with Abilene Christian University (ACU) to offer the Wildcat Rewards Visa Card. The co-branded card program allows cardholders to earn rewards points that can be used to help pay for students’ expenses at ACU or any other college through ACU’s Wildcat Rewards program. Rewards can also be redeemed for cash back, airfare, merchandise, and more through the Credit Union’s CURewards program.

Scott Hinshaw, ACU’s Director of the Wildcat Rewards program, formerly worked with a large airline rewards program with over 100 million members. He had the idea of taking the proven power of a rewards program and applying it to help universities connect better with their alumni, friends, parents, and students.

“Credit cards rewards programs exist for just about everything, but we haven’t seen another program with rewards for college tuition, books, and room and board,” Hinshaw said. “We know that Christian higher education can be expensive. It’s our hope and prayer that this program puts the dream of a Christian higher education in the reach of more families.”

The Credit Union’s mission to help members become better stewards and achieve their financial goals resonated with Hinshaw, who was searching for a financial partner for the Wildcat Rewards program.

“We were looking for new ways to strengthen our card portfolio through an affinity card program. Getting the call from Scott regarding the idea of a university-related rewards program was divine timing,” said Marji Hughes, Christian Community Credit Union’s Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer. “The partnership with ACU aligned with our values and strategic plan. It truly offers a unique way to support ACU, its students and their parents. We’re excited to expand our card program to other Christian schools.”

“Creating this new program was a big challenge, yet it was our biggest victory,” said Jennifer Still, Christian Community Credit Union’s Project Manager. “Our team was in communication nearly every day with vendor partners to ensure all issues were being addressed and we were within the project timeline. I’m proud of our team at the Credit Union. It is a great accomplishment for the Credit Union and ACU!”
