Texas Trust’s Spirit Debit Reward Card Hits $2M in Giving to 22 Local High Schools

Arlington, Texas – September 16, 2020 – The Texas Trust Credit Union Spirit Debit Reward card has benefited six school districts in north Texas to the tune of $2 million. The nine-year-old program, which began with a handful of local high schools has grown to support 22 high schools.

More than 35,861 Texas Trust members are Spirit Debit cardholders. Schools earn money year round, each time a cardholder makes an eligible debit card purchase with their Spirit Debit card.

The schools receive a monthly check from Texas Trust, which they can spend as they wish. Schools routinely use the funds for extracurricular activities, field trips, beautification projects, class tools such as graphing calculators and books, and professional development training.

Grand Prairie Independent School District’s Spirit Debit Reward cards have earned the associated schools and education foundation more than $880,000 since 2011. Each school earns a different amount based on usage, with South Grand Prairie High School earning the most to date with $227,457.

The Mansfield Independent School District has garnered $550,487 through its Spirit Debit cards. Mansfield High School has earned the most there with just over $136,000.

High schools in Arlington, Cedar Hill, Desoto, and Athens are also earning cash from Texas Trust’s Spirit Debit Reward card.

“This Spirit Debit Reward program was designed to provide schools with extra financial support to further enrich the learning experience for their students,” said Jim Minge, CEO of Texas Trust Credit Union. “Because of the simplicity of the program it is an easy way for these schools to earn money and do more for their students.”
