Security Service Charitable Foundation Donates $2,500 to The Children's Shelter

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – September 22, 2020) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping The Children’s Shelter amidst the COVID-19 crisis by providing a $2,500 donation to purchase face masks, protective gowns, and sanitizing stations to protect children and staff during the pandemic.

Established in 1901, The Children’s Shelter is one of the oldest, continually operating nonprofit organizations in San Antonio. They serve children and families residing in Bexar and contiguous counties. Last year, The Children's Shelter provided therapeutic care for 600 children/youth; placed 184 children in trained, therapeutic foster families; served 233 children with trauma-informed mental healthcare; and impacted an additional 2,147 children and 1,227 parents and caregivers through family strengthening programming.

“The Children’s Shelter was well prepared to provide personal protection items to our staff at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said India Chumney, chief development officer for The Children’s Shelter. “No one could have imagined that this crisis would continue for so long or predicted the spike experienced during the summer months. We are so thankful to the Security Service Charitable Foundation for providing us with funding to purchase more PPE when we needed it the most.”

The Children's Shelter provides emergency shelter care for youth; trauma-sensitive mental healthcare for children and families, foster care placement in trained foster and adoptive homes; supportive parenting classes through iParent SA®; nurturing the needs of first-time, economically disadvantaged moms through Nurse-Family Partnership®; and research-based skills and resources for men to become stronger dads through Compadre y Compadre™.

“In serving on the board for The Children’s Shelter, I’ve seen first-hand their dedication to restoring innocence and strengthening families in South Texas,” said Matthew Proffitt, vice president of title operations for Security Service Title Company. “It is a privilege to provide them with this donation to protect staff and children amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as they continue working to break the cycle of abuse.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
