SSFCU's $5,000 Donation Helps Feed Children in Need

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – NOVEMBER 19, 2020) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping the YMCA of El Paso feed children in the Kennedy Community through a $5,000 donation. The need for meals during the pandemic was at an all-time high in the Kennedy Community. In this area, 95% of children qualify for free or reduced meals while at school. Outside of school, many of these children do not know where their next meal will come from. This is why the YMCA offers meal programs for out-of-school time, when children are most at risk.

“At the Y we strive to alleviate food insecurity with our anti-hunger program.” said Bill Coon, president and CEO for YMCA of El Paso. “We are especially thankful to the Security Service Charitable Foundation for their generous donation to support our meal program, providing 1,760 meals to hungry children in the Kennedy community.”

The Kennedy community is of upmost importance to the YMCA of El Paso. Within this Housing Authority property, the majority of residents survive below the federal poverty level.

“For over 134 years, the YMCA has served the El Paso community by providing programs that support wellness, character and leadership development, education, family services, and other community-centric activities,” said Marisela Molinar, vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to be able to help them grow their efforts and feed children in need. We are grateful for their dedication to the El Paso community.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
