Del Norte Credit Union Launches Efforts To Feed New Mexico Families This Winter

Santa Fe, New Mexico, November 25, 2020 – Northern New Mexico financial mainstay, Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU) has announced the launch of their giving season with Forward Together—an innovative program to help curb hunger in some of New Mexico’s most rural areas. The credit union is donating funds for every new checking account, auto loan, or home loan they open directly to The Food Depot—a northern New Mexico food bank.

The campaign to raise funds began November 23rd and will run through the end of the year. The goal is to raise as much money as possible to help some of the most rural areas in the state get the essential meals they need to survive during a pandemic. According to The Food Depot’s website, The Food Depot “help[s] people of all ages with differing needs—those living in remote villages as well as in our largest cities and towns.” Del Norte Credit Union’s Forward Together program will benefit the food bank as follows:

  • New Checking Accounts will generate $5 or 20 meals.

  • New Auto Loans funded will generate $10 or 40 meals.

  • New Home Loans closed will generate $15 or 60 meals.

“This is another way we connect our mission of Improving Lives to the products and services we offer our membership—and now more than ever, we wanted to highlight that,” says Chuck Valenti, CEO/President of DNCU. “With the Forward Together program, our future and current members can see how the cooperative spirit of not-for-profit financial institutions works to better our communities and support the greater good of all that live here.”

Opening a new checking account, applying for auto loans and home loans is fast, safe and easy with the credit union’s recently updated website, www.dncu.com. Joining DNCU’s financial cooperative is open to most New Mexico residents and comes with many perks similar to those consumers see with big, national banks.

Chartered in 1954, Del Norte Credit Union is a not-for-profit credit union based in New Mexico with a mission of Improving Lives. DNCU offers a wide variety of products and services designed to make members achieve financial success. Today DNCU serves more than 57,000 members throughout New Mexico and the United States.

The Food Depot is committed to ending hunger in Northern New Mexico. As the food bank for nine Northern New Mexico counties, The Food Depot provides food to more than 145 nonprofit agencies including emergency food pantries, youth programs, senior centers, and shelters for battered persons. This service enables these agencies to stay focused on their primary missions such as sheltering homeless families, providing hot meals to the homebound and offering life skills development to youth. The food bank distributes an average of 444,000 pounds of food and household products each month, providing more than 370,000 meals to people in need–the most vulnerable of our community– children, seniors, working families and those in ill health.
