Black Hills FCU Helps Local Charity Feed the Hungry

Rapid City, SD – Black Hills Federal Credit Union recently donated $1,000 to the KOTA Care & Share Food Drive. This annual drive helps raise money to fund the work of Church Response, which includes feeding the hungry in the Rapid City area.

Founded in 1975, Church Response is an organization made up of churches and volunteers who work together to assist people in the community who have needs not met by other, existing organizations. Their services include providing food for the hungry, which can include 200-250 families each week.

“We are all at our best when we help each other,” said Carol Brown, Vice President of marketing and business development. “This year has caused a rise in need across the nation, and South Dakota is not exempt. BHFCU’s mission is, We Improve Lives, and helping people in our community is an important part of that mission.”

This year marked 35 years of the Rapid City-based KOTA Care and Share Food Drive, which looked slightly different from usual. The food drive took place in November at Black Hills Bagels in Rapid City. While fundraising events have adjusted to guidelines dictated by the pandemic, the need continues, and in many cases, is greater than in the past.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers and Jeans Day donations, and contributions from members, staff, and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Established in Rapid City in 1941, Black Hills Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-forprofit, financial cooperative serving more than 79,000 members. The community-chartered credit union has locations in Rapid City, Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Sioux Falls, Spearfish, Sturgis, and Wall, South Dakota.
