CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (January 21, 2021) — Over the course of many years, Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) has helped hundreds of students and educators fund their higher education pursuits through its annual scholarship program. In fact, the Credit Union has awarded nearly $900,000 in scholarships to more than 425 students and educators since their founding.

“Education is an incredibly powerful tool,” says Pete Gates, MSGCU President/CEO. “We are pleased to help local students and educators take their next steps toward a more successful future.”

Offering more than $106,000 in awards this year, applications are now being accepted for the following scholarships at msgcuscholarships.org:

Educational Solutions Scholarship for high school seniors planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university. Eighteen $2,500 scholarships are offered.

Rudolph Heino High School Scholarship for high school seniors who embody the MSGCU philosophy of “people helping people.” Five $2,500 scholarships are offered.

Larry Swantek Educational Studies Scholarship for college students studying education or high school seniors with plans to study education in college. Four $2,500 scholarships are offered.

Milo Perreault Educator Advantage Scholarship for certified educators and administrators of early childhood, primary, secondary, and post-secondary schools who are continuing their education. Four $2,500 scholarships are offered.

William Cayen Skilled Trades Scholarship for students pursuing a skilled trades certificate in Macomb, Oakland or Wayne counties. Two $2,500 scholarships are offered.

Scholarship details and online applications can be found at msgcuscholarships.org. The application period runs through March 5, 2021.

In addition to these scholarships, MSGCU also offers annual scholarships to students in the police and fire academies at Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, and Schoolcraft College. The Stephen Thomas First Responder Scholarship program awards $2,000 to twelve academy graduates annually. Information on these scholarships is available through the program directors of each academy.
