LANSING, Mich. — CASE Credit Union announced the recipients of its 2021 scholarship program, providing $24,000 in financial support to regional high school and Lansing Community College students. The credit union also unveiled the addition of a new scholarship as well as a new internship program in partnership with the college.

“During this challenging time in our nation and community, I am proud to announce the creation of a new scholarship and internship program, which go to support the financial and educational needs of students in the communities we serve,” said Jeffrey Benson, president and CEO of CASE Credit Union. “These scholarships strongly support the philosophy of the credit union movement of people helping people.”

The new annual scholarship, the Director’s Award, is presented to one high school student planning to attend college in the fall. The $1,000 inaugural award was presented to Alicea Heady of Everett High School, who will be attending Michigan State University.

The credit union also introduced The William Brewer II Executive Leadership Program, Financial Services Internship, in honor of Brewer’s service as board chair of CASE Credit Union since 1991. This internship will allow Lansing Community College students to meet with and shadow executives and experienced CASE Credit Union team members, giving them real-life exposure to the business world.

The Chubb/Hayes/Feeman Scholarship awarded $1,000 to eight college-bound high school seniors.

• Caden Plaxton, Williamston High School (Michigan State University)

• Haylie Lewis, Eaton Rapids High School (Michigan State University)

• Julia Marie Gierman, Gierman Academy (Hope College)

The Shelia A. Williams-Matlock Scholarship awarded $1,000 to five college-bound high school seniors.

• Noah Yarborough, East Lansing High School (Lansing Community College)

Scholarships honor former influential credit union employees, board members and a founder of CASE. Winners were chosen based on several criteria, including academic achievement, community involvement, school activities, awards and honors, financial needs, recommendations, and an essay on financial literacy initiatives.
