San Diego County CU Celebrates Local Educators

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (September 13, 2021) – San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®) was proud to celebrate San Diego’s finest educators as the presenting sponsor of the 31st Annual “Cox Presents: Salute to Teachers” event. Held in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education and Cox® Communications, the awards show is a presentation of the 48th Annual San Diego County Teacher of the Year Awards. SDCCU has supported this event for the past 13 years.

“SDCCU is honored to support this outstanding awards event and celebrate the extraordinary work of teachers and educators who impact our community and students,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Campbell. “Teachers are the leaders who inspire our youth and play a significant role in forging their futures. We applaud each of the nominees for the work they do each day to give students the knowledge, resources and opportunities they need to succeed.”

This year’s event was celebrated differently than in year’s past to ensure the health and safety of attendees. It was a private reception held on Friday September 10 at deck6555 in downtown San Diego. The event will air on Sunday, October 17 at 9 p.m. (PT) on Cox’s YurView Network (Cox Channel 4/1004 and Spectrum Channel 4). The television special will highlight the hard work and dedication of the county’s more than 26,000 public school teachers, share highlights from the reception and celebrate the five 2021-2022 San Diego County Teachers of the Year:

  • Jacquelyn Jourdane, San Altos Elementary School, Lemon Grove School District

  • Tiffany Jokerst, West Hills High School, Grossmont Union High School District

  • Heather McClain, James Duke Elementary School, Ramona Unified School District

  • Laura Reyes, Central Elementary School, Escondido Union School District

  • Xye Sanders, Cesar Chavez Middle School, Oceanside Unified School District

The five winners will also represent the County of San Diego in the California Teacher of the Year program, where they will compete to go onto the National Teacher of the Year program. This year’s 33 local teacher nominees recognized by their districts as teachers of the year were selected based on student achievement, professional development and community involvement, teaching philosophy and personal style, knowledge of educational issues and trends, promotion and development of the teaching profession, accountability and ability to serve as ambassadors of education.
