Unitus Community CU Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Portland, OR (September 13, 2021) - Unitus Community Credit Union is hosting a Hispanic Community Celebration to launch Hispanic Heritage Month. Unitus is celebrating the Hispanx and Latinx generations who have enriched our communities through social, cultural, and economic contributions.

Unitus will be hosting an outdoor family-friendly Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, at their Unitus Plaza in downtown Portland on Friday September 17, 2021, from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. This special event will celebrate the culture of our Hispanx and Latinx community as well as Unitus’ recent designation as a Juntos Avanzamos credit union.

Unitus, and partners, have strived to create more opportunities and equity in our communities, and that deserves to be celebrated. Unitus is honored to be named a Juntos Avanzamos credit union, as there are less than 3% of credit unions in the U.S. with this prestigious designation. This independent designation is awarded to credit unions that have demonstrated a remarkable commitment to serving and empowering Hispanic and immigrant consumers, a feat that usually takes five years to accomplish, yet Unitus worked diligently to earn this certification in just two years.

“We are excited and honored to have been named a Juntos Avanzamos credit union. This symbolizes our commitment to the Hispanx and Latinx community we serve,” said Steven Stapp, Unitus President/CEO.

“We look forward to celebrating with our community and holding this event that will honor the contribution of the Hispanx and Latinx community. We are fortunate to have this opportunity and look forward to sharing it with you.”

An important part of Unitus' work is to support the Hispanx and Latinx community through partnerships with organizations that are dedicated to creating stronger communities to live, work, and play in. Unitus is a proud partner with the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Milagro, Latino Network, El Programa Hispano, and the Consulate of Mexico in Portland. Focused on financial wellbeing, their partnership with the Consulate allows Unitus to be a part of their Binational Financial Education week and the collaboration with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce supports the Pathways to Scholarship program.

At Unitus, we’re dedicated to doing the right thing for our community with neighborhood branches, and partnerships with nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life for all people in our communities.
