For the third year in a row, over 700 Mountain America Credit Union employees donated nearly 2,400 service hours to make a positive impact in their local communities. 

Every September, each of the credit union’s employees receives paid time off to volunteer for a cause or charitable organization they wish to support. 

This year, employees in Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah contributed their time to assist dozens of charities, including food banks, animal shelters and even a 20th anniversary tribute to the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001.

Over the past three years, more than 2,500 employees have contributed nearly 9,000 hours of service during the Month of Caring. 

“It’s important that we do more than talk about how much we care about our communities. We must also show it through acts of service,” says Sterling Nielsen, president and chief executive officer at Mountain America Credit Union. “The Month of Caring is an amazing way we demonstrate how service is an essential part of our company culture.”

In Murray, a group of Mountain America employees dedicated their time to help the Humane Society of Utah by walking dogs, giving them a chance to play and get some fresh air. In Utah alone, this non-profit organization rescues and finds forever homes for thousands of pets each year.

“We depend on our community and corporate volunteers such as [those from] Mountain America Credit Union for many critical tasks to ensure that we can save the lives of more than 7,000 homeless pets each year,” said Lisa Burningham, a Humane Society of Utah volunteer manager. 

“Mountain America’s Annual Month of Caring initiative has been an integral part of our volunteer program for three years now, and we are so grateful for their support and generosity,” she said.

Layne Pitcher, vice president of marketing and operations at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper, Utah, expressed her appreciation for the Mountain America team members who helped maintain and clean the facility, which is home to hundreds of different types of marine species. 

“We are grateful to our community partners like Mountain America and their employees who volunteer their time to help improve the Aquarium,” said Pitcher. “We thank them for their skill and efforts.”
