Hilo, HI. (November 25, 2022) – Each day, members of our Hawai’i Island community are experiencing food insecurity. The ever-increasing cost of food and challenges from the pandemic has caused a dramatic increase in the number of those needing assistance.

The Food Basket’s mission is to end hunger in Hawai’i County and HFS Federal Credit Union has stepped up to help meet the needs of our island’s ‘ohana. Throughout the month of October 2022, monetary donations were collected at 6 branch locations island wide.  As a token of appreciation and for a minimum donation, donors received an HFS Tote Bag or Cap.

Through the generous donations of the credit union’s members and staff, a total of $25,100 was raised for The Food Basket!

“With inflation increasing the cost of gas, utilities, housing and food, many families are finding they don't have money left for groceries after paying their bills, especially at the end of the month.  This incredible donation from HFS Federal Credit Union will go directly towards purchasing food for our island neighbors in need this holiday season, helping to keep food on the tables of those who are struggling the most.
