Giving Program Raises $4,200

This credit union’s staff-led Community Action Team supports organizations that are important
to their employees.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) believes it is imperative to support the passions of its
staff. That’s why they promote the staff-led Community Action Team (CAT) program and are
proud to share that in January, staff contributions raised $4,200 for Hunger $ Homelessness
organizations across the state. Employees also collected 258 food items and volunteered 76
hours.

The CAT program has always focused on supporting organizations important to staff. This year,
to focus further, the program was reorganized, grouping like organizations with a monthly
theme. In January, this included three organizations engaged in the fight against hunger and
homelessness, Feeding South Dakota, the HOPE Center, and the St. Francis House.

“Each month, our goal is to allow staff chances to get involved however they can. Whether
through monetary donations, volunteering, or lending a hand,” said Leslie Millard, Marketing
Communications Specialist. “The results from our January project speak for themselves.
Organizing the program is one of the things that makes me most proud to work at BHFCU.”

CAT co-chairs organized nine volunteer opportunities with Feeding South Dakota and the St.
Francis House throughout the month. From Sioux Falls to Pierre to Rapid City, BHFCU staff
showed up to do good in their communities totaling 76 hours volunteered. At month’s end,
BHFCU donated $1,400 to each of the three supported organizations.

BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and
donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a
501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
