Rapid City, S.D.  – Working to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of local children, Black Hills Federal Credit Union employees helped sell nearly 16,000 rubber ducks for the 28th Annual Great Black Hills Duck Race in Rapid City this July.

A fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Regional Health, the duck race helps provide vital care and medical equipment for ill and injured children throughout the Black Hills. This year, BHFCU employees raised more than $3,400 for the one-and-a-half mile race along Rapid Creek.

“The Duck Race is a fun way for our community to come together and raise funds for local children in need,” said Kitty Gust, chair of BHFCU’s Community Action Team Project for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “BHFCU is proud to partner with area businesses and individuals to support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ efforts to improve lives in our community.”

BHFCU employees also participated in Working Against Violence, Inc.’s Walk A Mile In Her Shoes fundraising event the Meade County Fair and 4-H Achievement Days’ Calf Scramble and Relay for Life events in Sioux Falls and Sturgis.

Additionally, they raised $500 for the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota, donated $500 to the Northern Hills Court Appointed Special Advocates and provided water and dinner to the Pierre and Ft. Pierre Volunteer Fire Departments. 

This August, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the United Way of the Black Hills and Pierre Area Referral Services.
