Hometown Credit Union Raises Nearly $1,600 for Local Student in Need

Ashley, ND - A sixth grade student at Ashley Public School, Kaylee Quam, has been recently diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Last month, she was hospitalized at Mayo Clinic, but since has returned home and is seeking medical treatment in Bismarck. Hometown Credit Union saw this as a great opportunity to put its motto, “People Helping People,” into action to assist in the needs of the community.

Hometown Credit Union held a contest, “Coins for Kaylee,” at Ashley Public School for the month of September to help raise money for Kaylee’s current and future medical expenses. Each class (PreK-12) was given a bucket to collect loose change. The class that collected the most money would be awarded a pizza party sponsored by Hometown Credit Union. Kaylee’s own sixth grade class won the prize by collecting $340.06.

Altogether, students of Ashley Public School raised $1,207.41 for Kaylee. Hometown Credit Union then matched funds up to $250, along with having a donation bucket at the Ashley office that raised $134.54. The total amount raised for Kaylee was $1,591.95.

Hometown Credit Union currently has a medical benefit fund set up for donations, and if you would like to learn more about Kaylee, read her story on her “Go Fund Me” page.
