Westerly Community Credit Union Awards $4,500 in Scholarships

Westerly Community Credit Union recently awarded (4) $1000 scholarships to local students of Chariho and Westerly High Schools. They also sponsored a local student who was awarded a $500 Cooperative Credit Union scholarship.


Sarah Verbinnen of Westerly, was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union- Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship. The Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship is named on behalf of the Credit Union’s former president, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Joseph Cugini. Cugini retired in 2000 after 41 years of service to the Credit Union. Verbinnen is a graduate of Westerly High School and will be attending Belmont University in Tennessee this fall to study Communications.


Derek Jacobs of Westerly, was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union- Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship. The Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the Credit Union’s former Vice President, Robert M. Bewlay, for his 35 years of dedication and service to the Westerly Community Credit Union. Jacobs is a graduate of Westerly High School and will be attending University of Rhode Island in the fall to study Computer Science.


Mia DiBiasio of Carolina, was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship. The Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarship is awarded to a graduating High School Senior who will be attending a Vocation Credentialed Program upon graduation. Mia is a graduate of Chariho High School and will be studying Nursing at Anna Maria College in Massachusetts this fall.


Mackenzie Fox of Charlestown, was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union College Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high school graduate attending a four year college or university. Mackenzie is a graduate of the Chariho High School and will be attending Providence College in the fall to study Biology.
Lani Kopperman of Westerly, was awarded the Cooperative Credit Union Scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by the Westerly Community Credit Union which is one of eleven participating credit unions in Rhode Island. Lani is a graduate of the Westerly High School and will be attending Suffolk University in the fall to study Psychology and Art Studies.
