Security Service FCU Helped Collect 2.4 Million Pounds of Food for San Antonio Food Banks

(SAN ANTONIO, TX – JANUARY 18, 2018) –– Security Service Federal Credit Union in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank and neighbors across San Antonio helped collect 2.4 million pounds of food in November 2017 for San Antonio families as part of their annual Food4SA campaign. 2.4 million pounds of food is enough to make more than 1.6 million meals or feed more than 84,000 people three meals a day for six months.

2017 was the 15th year Security Service partnered in the Food4SA project which serves the San Antonio Food Bank’s 16 county service area, one of the largest in Texas. This month-long project is an annual anchor in ensuring that no one goes hungry.

In an effort to engage the next generation of public servants, the program encouraged students throughout San Antonio to compete to see which school could collect the most food. Top-performing schools were awarded $250 each for their efforts throughout the campaign.

“When people are well nourished, they are better able to take care of themselves, their families and serve their communities,” said Eric Cooper, president and CEO for the San Antonio Food Bank. “The Food4SA campaign helps open the doors for positive growth in immeasurable directions. It also reminds people that they are not alone. They are part of a community of neighbors and service-oriented institutions that are ready to walk through the challenges of life with them. Sometimes knowing you’re not alone is the most important part.”

The Food Bank counts on the yearlong generosity of donors—ongoing donations can be made online at www.safoodbank.org. Each $10 donated buys 100 pounds of food for people and families in need.

Other 2017 Food4SA campaign partners included H-E-B, Magic 105.3 FM, News 4 WOAI, and the San Antonio Express-News.
