Sikorsky Credit Union Awarding $5,000 in Scholarships

Stratford, CT – January 23, 2018  –  For many high school seniors, midterm exams have passed and an exciting time is coming soon—graduation.  Beyond graduation for many is secondary eduation, and with it, many costs.  Five selected graduating high school seniors will have a head start as Sikorsky Credit Union is again offering the Thomas J. Williams Scholarship program.

To apply for the scholarship, eligible students will submit an essay for consideration. In order to be eligible, the student must be graduating high school in the spring of 2018 and plan to attend an institute of higher learning on a full-time basis this coming fall.  The student must also be a member of Sikorsky Credit Union on or before February 28, 2018. Membership at the Credit Union can be started with just a $5 minimum opening deposit.

“Over the years, we have helped dozens of students get a head start on managing college expenses through this program.’ mentioned Diane Farrell, who is the Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sikorsky Credit Union. ‘We are looking forward to rewarding five more high school seniors.”  Interested high school seniors may pick up an application at any of the Credit Union’s branch offices in Danbury, Milford, Seymour, Shelton or Stratford. Seniors at Ansonia, Oxford, Seymour and Stratford High School may also visit the Credit Union branch inside their school.  The application can also be downloaded at www.sikorskycu.org/scholarship. The application deadline is March 30, 2018.  The program is named in honor of Thomas J. Williams, who was president of Sikorsky Credit Union for 30 years.

Founded in 1948, Sikorsky Credit Union (www.sikorskycu.org) is the 4th largest credit union in Connecticut with approximately 50,000 members and over $700 million in assets.  Sikorsky Credit Union branches are located in the towns of Stratford, Shelton, Seymour, Milford and Danbury.  The Credit Union also operates branches in Ansonia, Oxford, Stratford and Seymour High Schools, as well as branches inside Sikorsky Aircraft plants in Stratford and Bridgeport, along with West Palm Beach, FL. As a state chartered credit union, membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in Fairfield, New Haven or Hartford County.  Deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. Government.
