Mower County Employees Credit Union Hosts 2nd Annual Kids Carnival

AUSTIN, Minn. (July 26, 2018) - The Mower County Employees Credit Union (MCECU) based in Austin, Minnesota, held its second annual County Kids Club Carnival Thursday, July 26. The carnival was first inspired in 2017 to celebrate youth membership and to educate youth on the importance of savings. This year the event has grown in popularity among members and continues to offer a fun atmosphere filled with games, treats and of course money education.

The 2018 County Kids Club Carnival included games like Chuck-A-Buck, Wheel-Spinner and the famous Sucker Pull. Youth members are provided free tickets to play carnival-style games earning prizes of either sweet treats, fun toys or better yet County Kid Bucks. During each game employees of the credit union provide fun facts or entertaining money jokes like the past favorite: Why did the football coach go to the credit union? To get his quarter back! Younger members can color their favorite money character at the coloring table and all members get a chance to guess how many jelly beans are in the jar – you won’t believe how many are there. The jelly bean jar is intended to represent a child’s piggy bank to inspire children to save their change as the total can grow fast. At the end of the festivities youth members can either cash in their County Kid Bucks for more prizes or make the wise decision to cash in for a deposit to their share savings account.

Offering the youth member club has assisted the credit union in growing its membership base as well as creating a family friendly environment. One of MCECU’s missions is to promote lifelong membership for all ages.  In the past two years the Club has offered an excellent opportunity to promote financial education to all generations.

The Mower County Employees Credit Union is based in Austin, Minnesota, as has over $5 million in assets. Products and service offerings continue to grow to meet membership demand and the credit union’s Board of Directors and employees are optimistic for a thriving future and enjoy upholding the “People Helping People” philosophy.
