Affinity Plus Donates 8.9 Tons of Computers And Electronics for Families in Need

Partnership with PCs for People Makes Life-Changing Impact throughout Minnesota

St. Paul, Minn. (March 27, 2019) – Affinity Plus partnered with PCs for People at the end of 2018, to provide refurbished computers to families in need throughout Minnesota – while keeping tons of electronics out of landfills.

In 2018, Affinity Plus underwent an organization-wide systems upgrade, replacing 182 computer operating systems. Donating the existing equipment to PCs for People diverted 17,747 pounds (8.9 tons) of electronics away from landfills. In addition, the partnership between Affinity Plus and PCs for People resulted in 62 refurbished computers being distributed to families in need throughout Minnesota at the end of 2018 – with more computers yet to be processed and distributed in 2019.

“For 65% of the recipients this is the first computer they have ever owned,” said Kristina Wright, Senior Vice President, Member Experience, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union. “We are proud to work with PCs for People to help provide access to computers for those in need and provide a life-changing impact for individuals and families.”

PCs for People is a Minnesota-based non-profit dedicated to providing affordable computers and internet access to low-income people through collecting and refurbishing business electronics. Organizational partnerships with PCs for People allow for the responsible recycling of end-of-life IT assets with a positive impact for local communities.

“The support of Affinity Plus allowed PCs for People to positively impact the lives of low-income families and gave 130 children access to a computer,” said Wolfie Browender, Director of Recycling Partnerships, PCs for People. “We are so thankful to Affinity Plus for their support on behalf of the men, women and children we serve.”
