They are sponsoring three college scholarships in the amount of $1000 and two vocational scholarships each in the amount of $500.00.  The Westerly Community Credit Union will also be awarding $500.00 through the Cooperative Credit Union Association College Scholarship Program.  The deadline for these scholarships is March 13, 2020.

The Joseph N. Cugini Memorial College Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior attending a two or four-year college or university.  This scholarship was established to honor the many years of dedicated service by Joseph N. Cugini to the Westerly Community Credit Union. After 40 years of service, Cugini retired as President/CEO and Chairperson of the Board of Directors. He is known for his work in the Credit Union movement: with the Credit Union National Association, the Rhode Island Credit Union League, and the World Council of Credit Unions. This scholarship honors his many accomplishments achieved during his tenure at the Credit Union.

The Robert M. Bewlay Memorial College Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior who will be attending a two or four-year college or university upon graduation.  This scholarship was established to honor Robert M. Bewlay’s dedication and service to the Westerly Community Credit Union. As Vice President of the Credit Union for 35 years, Bewlay was instrumental in implementing the computer system and technology utilized by the Credit Union.

The Westerly Community Credit Union College Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating High School Senior who plans to attend a two or four-year college or university upon graduation.

The Westerly Community Credit Union Vocational Scholarships will be awarded to two graduating High School Seniors who plan to attend a locally recognized Vocation Credentialed Certificate Program upon graduation. Examples of Credentialed Certified Programs can be found listed on the application.

The Westerly Community Credit Union is also proud to be a part of the Cooperative Credit Union Association College Scholarship Program.  Each participating Credit Union will submit their top three applications to the Cooperative Credit Union for final review and consideration for a $500 scholarship award.  Applicants will be evaluated on a variety of criteria including the students’ academic performance, financial need, extracurricular activities, and the quality and content of an essay that addressed the applicant’s intended major field of study and career goals.

Applications are available at any Westerly Community Credit Union branch location, on our website www.westerlyccu.com, and at the guidance departments at the local high schools.  Applications must be submitted to one of Westerly Community Credit Union branch locations by the March 13, 2020 deadline.  For more information call 596-7000 or visit our website www.westerlyccu.com.
