ICUL Donates $250,000 to Iowa CU Foundation to Chamption Mission of People Helping People

DES MOINES, IA (January 14, 2020) — Affiliates Management Company (AMC), the holding company of the Iowa Credit Union League (ICUL), helped the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) kick off its 25th anniversary year with a donation of $250,000 in support of ICUF’s philanthropic mission.

Launched in 1995, ICUF works to empower people and communities to achieve financial well-being by championing the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” ICUF also serves as a hub for credit union philanthropy, assisting credit unions with supporting members in need.

“The Iowa Credit Union Foundation is truly grateful to AMC and ICUL for their ongoing charitable support of our mission. What a wonderful way to kick off our 25th anniversary year,” said Jaimie Miller, Executive Director of ICUF. “Without the support from AMC, the Iowa Credit Union League and credit unions across the state, we would not have been able to assist Iowans with disaster grants, award college scholarships or offer meaningful financial coach training to credit union employees. This philanthropic support has truly made a difference in the lives of Iowans in need over the past 25 years.”

Since inception, ICUF has distributed more than $2 million in asset building programs, $700,000 in disaster grant assistance and $400,000 in scholarships and training for credit unions and their members. In this 25th anniversary year, ICUF has a goal of awarding a record number of grants and scholarships and increasing their impact through the launch of new programs and initiatives that benefit Iowans in financial need.

“Credit unions are built on the cooperative philosophy of people helping people. At AMC and ICUL, we live this mission and give back in an effort to improve the financial lives of consumers,” said Murray Williams, CEO of AMC and ICUL. “ICUF is uniquely structured to support credit union members in need, and to help advance statewide initiatives that bring attention to financial issues affecting all Iowans. Their work is something we celebrate and support. On behalf of our board and staff,  I am excited to kick off their 25th anniversary year with this donation and hope it challenges others to do the same.”

Through the company’s AMC Gives Back initiative, AMC employees have also chosen to personally support the work of ICUF. Each year, AMC hosts a “Friend of the Foundation” fundraiser for ICUF in which AMC employees offer personal donations and payroll deduction donations in support of ICUF’s work. In 2019, 77% of AMC employees donated to ICUF.
