Indiana Members CU Foundation Awards $2,500 Scholarship to Local Student

Indianapolis, IN, May 22, 2020 - Indiana Members Foundation, the charitable arm of Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU), along with Indiana Members Credit Union, is excited to announce Rachel Bates as the recipient of the first annual Ron Collier Family Collegiate Scholarship Program, receiving a $2,500 scholarship.  The Ron Collier Family Collegiate Scholarship Program is available to Senior students attending New Palestine High School that are members of Indiana Members Credit Union, intending to study full-time at an accredited college or university. Applications will be accepted annually from January 1 through March 31.

Indiana Members Credit Union President and CEO, Ron Collier, is donating $2,500 to Indiana Members Foundation to create an annual scholarship for a New Palestine High School Senior.

Collier is a long time resident of New Palestine, and his three children all graduated from New Palestine High School.  His oldest daughter, Ashley, is a teacher at Sugar Grove Elementary and her sons attend Sugar Grove.  After graduating from Ball State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, he went on to teach at Noblesville High School.  Collier has been with IMCU since 1985 and became President and CEO in 2003.  Indiana Members Credit Union continues to grow under his leadership, reaching $2 Billion in assets in 2019.

Collier embraces the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”, and helped establish Indiana Members Foundation in 2010 exclusively for the purpose of being a positive influence in the community served by Indiana Members Credit Union; specifically, providing school children in the Indianapolis area with the necessities essential for learning and succeeding in their education.

Collier and wife Debbie, have three children and four grandchildren: Ashley (Colin & Connor), Katie, and Daniel (Micha & Samuel).  He enjoys golf, fishing and cheering on the Colts, Pacers and Cubs.

Ron Collier, presented the scholarship to Rachel Bates on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at New Palestine High School.  Rachel will be attending Ball State University in the fall and plans to major in Business Administration.  She is a ten-year member of Hancock County 4-H, has earned several philanthropic awards for her volunteerism, and has a passion to work with people and business.  Her ultimate goal is to earn a law degree and open up a Family & Elder Law Office in Hancock County.

“Education is something I am passionate about and this scholarship allows our family the opportunity to give back to students in our community,” said Ron Collier, President and CEO of Indiana Members Credit Union. “I am honored to present this scholarship to Rachel and help her achieve her financial dream and wish her continued success with her future education.”

Indiana Members Foundation plans to award all of their 2020 Scholarship and Grant recipients individually this year.  “In this time of social distancing, we felt it best to honor the recipients individually, in lieu of our annual awards banquet, and what better place than in front of their high school, alma mater or organization,” Collier said.
