PSECU Tree Planting Campaign Encourages Members to Sign Up for Electronic Statements

Harrisburg, PA (May 29, 2020) – Pennsylvania’s anytime, anywhere digital credit union, PSECU, will launch its new “You Can Make a Difference” tree planting campaign on June 1 to encourage members to switch from paper to electronic banking statements. For every ten member accounts that enroll in the service, the credit union will plant one tree. The goal of the campaign, which runs through June 30, is to plant 500 trees.

“PSECU’s paper statements average four pages each; by opting for e-Statements, members can save approximately 48 sheets of paper a year. Not only does this reduce a lot of unnecessary paper waste, which is good for the environment, but it also saves money – money that the credit union can return to our member-owners through things like competitive rates, low- or no-fee products and services, financial education resources, and top-of-the-line banking technologies,” explained PSECU President and CEO George Rudolph. “That’s really what our digital-first banking model is all about: Creating efficiencies for our members, providing them with maximum benefits, and allowing them to manage their finances anytime, anywhere.”

PSECU members can easily change their account statement preference from paper to e-Statements by logging into their online banking account at psecu.com, clicking “My Money,” then “e-Statements,” and then “Switch.”

Following the “You Can Make a Difference” campaign, the number of e-Statement enrollments will be tallied, and the tree planting total will be calculated and announced.

PSECU is working with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to determine the planting location and date. DCNR will recommend several tree varieties to reduce the impact of diseases and pests. The mix will likely include oak, maple, sycamore, redbud, dogwood, and other deciduous trees.

“Of our more than 450,000 members, approximately 120,267 still receive monthly paper statements,” added Rudolph. “We hope that these members will consider making the switch to e-Statements and help us plant trees to support the beauty and well-being of our community in doing so.”

Individuals interested in becoming a PSECU member and taking advantage of its forward-thinking, environmentally friendly business model, which favors a digital-first approach to providing high-quality products and services over more standard branched banking, should visit PSECU’s website to learn more.

Opened in 1934, PSECU was founded by 22 ordinary people who pooled $90 and made an extraordinary commitment to each other: To create a financial institution where collective resources benefit all members. Today, PSECU continues that legacy as a leading full-service credit union managing more than $6 billion in assets and offering its over 450,000 members convenient anytime, anywhere digital banking options. PSECU was named a 2019 Best-In-State Credit Union by Forbes Magazine and a Best Credit Union of 2020 by GOBankingRates. For more information about PSECU, visit psecu.com.
