Affinity Foundation Donates $4,500 and Nearly 500 Pounds of Food for Local Food Banks and Pantries

Basking Ridge, N.J. ( June 17, 2020 )  – The Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation distributed $4,500 to nine food banks and pantries across New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, as well as collecting nearly 500 pounds of food through a virtual food drive hosted in partnership with YouGiveGoods.

The virtual food drive was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, to assist food banks and pantries amid increased unemployment and food insecurity as well as students no longer having access to school meals amid school closings. Affinity members, employees and the community purchased nonperishable food and supplies for those in need throughout March and April.

“As the pandemic started to impact jobs and close down schools, we immediately noticed this need and did what we could to support struggling members of our community,” said Jacqui Kearns, trustee of the Affinity Foundation. “Food banks needed and still do need our support, especially as food insecurity, a major concern in NJ and across the country, rose these past few months. Supporting the wellbeing of those in the communities around us is of utmost importance to Affinity.”

The Affinity Federal Credit Union Foundation distributed $4,500 to the following nine food banks and pantries across New Jersey, New York and Connecticut:

  • Center for Food Action in Mahwah, NJ

  • Food Bank Network of Somerset County in Bound Brook, NJ

  • Elijah’s Promise in New Brunswick, NJ

  • Flemington Area Food Pantry in Flemington, NJ

  • Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains, NJ

  • Lunch Break in Red Bank, NJ

  • North Rockland Food Pantry in Stony Point, NY

  • Open Door Shelter in Norwalk, CT

Connecticut Food Bank in Wallingford, CT
