PSECU Continues Support of Canceled Community for Kids Golf Tournament

Altoona and Harrisburg, PA (July 23, 2020) – While the 6th annual Penn State Altoona Alumni Association Community for Kids Golf Tournament was canceled for 2020 due to COVID-19 precautions, Presenting Sponsor PSECU, Pennsylvania’s anytime, anywhere digital credit union, will maintain its financial support. The event raises money for three beneficiaries: the Penn State Altoona Alumni Association Scholarship Program, the recently established Blair County Center for Child Justice, and the academic and programmatic initiatives of Penn State Altoona Intercollegiate Athletics.

“The current COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a lot of unexpected changes, but it’s important that we continue to support one another and work to improve our shared communities,” said PSECU State College Regional Director Wyatt Troxell. “Just because the Community for Kids Golf Tournament was canceled, doesn’t mean that the three initiatives it benefits no longer need support. On behalf of our more than 450,000 members, PSECU is proud to once again be able to contribute to these causes, especially during this challenging time.”

Originally scheduled for Friday, June 26, the Community for Kids Golf Tournament was later rescheduled for Monday, August 17 before ultimately being canceled to help prevent potential COVID-19 exposure and spread. Over the past five years, the event has raised more than $85,000 for its beneficiaries. This marks the third consecutive year that PSECU has supported the initiative with a $9,000 sponsorship, bringing the credit union’s total contribution to $27,000.

“PSECU has developed a special bond with the Penn State Alumni Association and the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society,” stated Tournament Chair Tom Koehle. “Their commitment to our Community for Kids Golf Tournament shows the true character of their organization and the belief they have in our beneficiaries.  Philanthropic support is vital to the success of the Center for Child Justice as well as our NCAA Division III Intercollegiate Athletics Department and our Alumni Society Student Scholarship Program.”

By PSECU honoring their commitment to the beneficiaries, our hope is that it will inspire our alumni and community members to support these causes, despite the event not taking place.

The Community for Kids Golf Tournament is now scheduled for June 25, 2021, at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona.

“We hope that the community will join us in supporting the beneficiaries of the Community for Kids Golf Tournament in absence of this year’s event,” Troxell added. “Let’s show them our appreciation for the hard work they do to continue to make our community great.”
